The door that is used for the Oddities Armoire is an early 19th century oak door from a French wedding armoire from Normandy, more precisely Pays de Caux.
According to French tradition, an armoire like this was ordered by a father when his daughter was born and was offered for her wedding as a gift. The mother was responsible for the decoration on the cabinet. It is an excellent example of old-world craftsmanship at it’s absolute finest.
The door that we used, is hand carved. Most wedding armoires are made of solid oak. The color is a rich golden oak. We sanded the door, to give it a more rugged and natural look.
The hinges are also quite impressive. We re-used them as well.
